berry oatmeal breakfast

This weekend we tried to plan a fun trip to go on since it will be the last time we can get away before I have the baby.  We decided to stay here and try to find something fun to do instead because every thing involved being in a car for too long and that just doesn't sound fun to me right now.  I suggested we rent paddle boards and go all day to the lake, my idea was shot down fast with a quick, "Sam, you are 7 1/2 months pregnant, choose something you can actually do."  Sometimes I forget that I am pregnant and think that I can still do everything.  I guess using my abs for half a day on a paddle board isn't the best idea.  Maybe I'll settle for a massage or pedicure (since I can no longer reach my toes).

This is my go to breakfast right now.  It hits the spot.  Really delicious and healthy.

Here is what you need:

-Coach's Oats (I buy mine from Costco) or you can use regular oatmeal
-organic frozen fruit:  This big bag of organic berries was only 10 dollars at costco.  This is definitely the cheapest you can get organic frozen fruit.
-truvia (optional)

Make the oatmeal according to directions and then top with your favorite frozen fruit.  Add a small pack of truvia and mix everything together.

my favorite things at trader joe's

Today I wanted to share some of my favorite things I buy at Trader Joe's.  I usually do most of my shopping at sprouts and the farmers market, but lately I have been loving trader joe's.  I like how you don't have to weigh their produce because everything says the price on it.  I went yesterday afternoon and I was so mad the entire time because it was so crowded.  Never again will I go on a Monday afternoon.  Way too many people (mostly grandmas).  I'm sorry for saying this but the snowbirds here are driving me insane.  Normally they don't bother me this bad, but since I am 7 and a half months pregnant I get annoyed easier by everything.  I am going to start doing grocery shopping at 8 in the morning or 9 at night.  Anyways, onto the food!

organic hummus dip
I buy this when I am too lazy to make my own hummus.

organic flour tortillas
These are the cheapest organic tortillas you can buy.  I buy two packs a week and put one of them in the freezer.  I live for tortillas these days.

Organic vanilla yogurt
Their organic yogurt is by far the cheapest, I think 2.99 for a big thing of it.  It lasts me all week.

Trader joe's creamy peanut butter and organic raspberry fruit spread
I love both of these!

Pink lady organic apples
their organic apples are a lot cheaper than other places.  I think it was around 3 dollars for this bag of apples.

microwaveable tiny potatoes
These are so yummy, just heat them up for a couple minutes in the microwave.

trader joe's medium salsa

Raw almonds

trader joe's granola bars
I know these aren't the healthiest, but sometimes you just need a little dessert/snack.  Instead of making cookies (i hate baking) i just eat one of these.

refried pinto beans salsa style and refried black beans with jalapeno peppers
I just discovered these delicious beans the other week.  They taste so good with my whole wheat tortillas.

The truth about Emergen-C Packets

The other night I ran into walmart to pick out some vitamin C pills and was shocked.  I have never read the back of an emergen-c packet ingredient list before.  Emergen-c contains "natural flavors", which pretty much means the company can sneak in MSG without labeling it.  Also one of the ingredients I was shocked to find was maltodextrin, a GMO (genetically modified organism).  If a food says it contains maltodextrin then chances are it isn't organic and has been genetically modified, it is in the same category as high fructose corn syrup.  You need to always read the ingredients on vitamins to make sure you are getting the nutrients without the additives.   They have a lot of questionable ingredients.  I definitely won't be buying emergen-c anytime soon.

Here is an ingredient list for Emergen-C

INGREDIENTS:
Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Manganese, Chromium, Sodium, Potassium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Quercetin, fructose, citric acid, natural flavor, tapioca maltodextrin, malic acid, silica, glycine, aspartic acid, tartaric acid, and cysteine hydrochloride.

Don't get too sad, there are better options!

This is what I started taking.

To know whether a food has been genetically modified you can look at this LIST of ingredients.  If a food has this on its label it has most likely been genetically modified.

Here is another option

For this you add a teaspoon to water and drink it.  I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.
